Sunday Night Football’s matchup was hosted by the Arizona Cardinals at State Farm Stadium against the undefeated Seattle Seahawks. The Cardinals were coming off an impressive win against the Cowboys on Monday Night Football while the Seahawks were coming off a BYE week.

The Seahawks got on the board quickly with a touchdown catch by wide receiver Tyler Lockett to give Seattle the early 7-0 lead in the first quarter. Kicker Jason Myers made a 41-yard field goal to give the Seahawks a 10-0 lead. At the end of the first quarter, quarterback Kyler Murray made an excellent 35-yard throw to wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins to put Cardinals on the board.

Tyler Lockett had one of the best games of his career so far, totaling 15 receptions, 200 yards gained, and three touchdown catches. At the end of the second quarter Lockett made a 47-yard catch for a touchdown from Wilson to extend the Seahawks leads 27-14.

The third quarter was dominated by both defenses, however Murray was able to squeeze in a five yard run for a touchdown, cutting the Seahawks’ lead by three points. Murray on Sunday totaled 34 completions, 360 passing yards, three touchdown passes, one interception and no sacks.

With six minutes left in the fourth quarter Lockett again made another touchdown catch to give the Seahawks a 34-24 lead heading into the final few minutes of the game. Murray came in clutch in the last minutes of the game, creating 14 plays for 75 yards that resulted in an eight-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Christian Kirk. Kicker Zane Gonzalez sent the game into overtime with a 44-yard field goal in the final seconds of the fourth quarter.

The Seahawks thought they had the victory after Metcalf’s rushing touchdown for 48 yards, however wide receiver David Moore was handed an offensive foul for holding and the play was nullified. This resulted in Wilson to throw a pick by linebacker Isaiah Simmons. This set up Gonzalez to make another clutch field goal to hand the Seahawks their first loss of the season by a score of 37-34.

Head coach for the Cardinals, Kliff Kingsbury, praised Simmons for his clutch play that won the game for the Cardinals. “Couldn’t be happier for Isaiah” said Kingsbury to ESPN. “He’s a guy, due to not having an offseason or really a preseason, we’ve tried to put him in positions to be successful and work him in there, but you saw tonight, the ability he has to make that play in that situation was huge and will do wonders for him moving forward.”

Murray after the game spoke about how much this victory meant for not only his team, but for himself as well. “These are the games you honestly dream about growing up, watching ‘Sunday Night Football’ last week, playing on Monday,” said Murray according to the Bleacher Report. “So I’m just super proud of the team, the way we fought, not giving up, no matter the circumstances, just keep battling, keep battling. And that’s what we did. So I think that’s huge for us to take that next step.”

The Seahawks performed well though taking their first loss of the season. Lockett had a huge game and Wilson still had a solid performance, despite throwing three interceptions. Though DK Metcalf has a quiet night, the play everyone was talking about was his rundown on safety Budda Baker to save a touchdown.

​

The Cardinals will have a BYE next week while the Seahawks head back home for a NFC West showdown against the San Francisco 49ers at CenturyLink Field in Seattle.
